Main Street Wilmington announces Fresh Air Entertainment , a street performance program that will bring musicians, poets, visual artists, singers and more to the streets of Wilmington. Wilmington City Council recently passed an ordinance to allow Main Street Wilmington to sanction street performers through Downtown Visions.
“The City of Wilmington is a living, breathing entity and this is just one more element that will contribute to the energy that city has,” Main Street Wilmington Director Clarence Wright said. “Similar to what you see in New York and other larger cities, performers of all kinds, from singers to jugglers to spoken word poets to everything in between, will be visible in various spots along the streets of downtown Wilmington.”
Through the Fresh Air Entertainment Series, performers will submit applications and will be selected as street performers by a Main Street Wilmington Selection committee. Once selected, the performers will be assigned a date, time and location approved for street performing. The artists will display a sign signifying they are sanctioned performers and will not be paid for their performance. Instead, they will accept tips from those who pass by and enjoy and entertainment.
To submit a performer application, please contact Jeni Barton at 302-425-5373 or jbarton@downtownvisions.org. Applications may also be picked up at the Downtown Visions office.
